Dallas Stars Sign Alexander Petrovic to Two-Year Contract
On Friday, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill announced the signing of defenseman Alexander Petrovic to a two-year, two-way contract starting in the 2024-25 season.
Petrovic, primarily an AHL player, debuted professionally in March 2012 and has since played 427 AHL games, accumulating 151 points (32 goals, 119 assists), 453 penalty minutes, nine game-winning goals, and a plus-37 rating over nine seasons with teams like the San Antonio Rampage, Providence Bruins, Stockton Heat, and Texas Stars.

In the 2023-24 season, Petrovic scored 22 points (five goals, 17 assists) in 70 regular-season AHL games and one goal in seven Calder Cup Playoff games. He joined the Dallas Stars afterward, playing his first Stanley Cup Playoff game since 2016, filling in as a sixth defenseman in the second round against the Colorado Avalanche. He played seven games, averaging over 12 minutes of ice time per game, and finished with a plus-1 rating.
In his NHL career, Petrovic has recorded 50 points (five goals, 45 assists) in 264 regular-season games over nine seasons. He debuted in the NHL with the Florida Panthers in 2013, spending his first seven seasons there. Traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2019, he played nine games before signing with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Dallas Stars as a free agent. Petrovic was called up to Dallas for one game in the 2023-24 season.
Originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round (No. 36) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Petrovic now looks forward to continuing his career with the Dallas Stars.
