Nikola Jokić Unveils New Approach With Referees After Historic OT Win
DENVER — Fresh off one of the most dominant performances of his career, Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokić says a major shift in his on‑court mindset is helping fuel his historic run.
Speaking to Yahoo Sports, Jokić revealed he has made a conscious effort to stay composed when dealing with officials — a notable change for a player who has often worn his emotions openly during games.
“I’m still going to talk to them,” Jokić said, “but I’m not going to lose my temper.”
The adjustment comes at a time when the three‑time MVP is delivering some of the most efficient and overwhelming basketball the league has ever seen. His new approach was on full display during Denver’s 142–138 overtime victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Christmas, where Jokić erupted for 56 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists, including an NBA‑record 18 points in overtime.
Coaches and teammates credited his calm demeanor as a key factor in the win, noting that Jokić remained focused even during tense late‑game exchanges. The Nuggets, who have leaned heavily on their star’s poise and playmaking, believe the shift could pay long‑term dividends as the season intensifies.
With Denver pushing toward the top of the Western Conference and Jokić once again at the center of the MVP conversation, his renewed composure may be as impactful as his stat lines — and that’s saying something.
