Dejan Stanković Returns to Crvena zvezda: “I’m Coming Home, Older and More Experienced”
Belgrade — Crvena zvezda has officially confirmed the return of Dejan Stanković as head coach, marking the beginning of his second tenure on the red‑and‑white bench. The club announced that all terms were agreed swiftly, with Stanković describing the decision as natural, emotional, and immediate.
Stanković, who previously led Zvezda from December 2019 to August 2022, said he feels he is returning “home,” emphasizing that he comes back older, more experienced, but with the same passion that defined his first spell in charge. At his presentation, he revealed that the agreement with the club was reached “in a minute,” underscoring the mutual trust and familiarity built over years.
A Proven Leader Returns
During his first tenure, Stanković delivered one of the most successful coaching periods in modern club history. Under his leadership, Zvezda won:
- Three Serbian SuperLiga titles
- Two Serbian Cups
- Three consecutive UEFA Europa League group‑stage appearances, including two knockout‑round qualifications
His teams were known for their intensity, discipline, and European competitiveness — qualities the club hopes to revive as it enters a new chapter.
“I Know What Zvezda Demands”
Stanković acknowledged the pressure and expectations that come with the Zvezda job, saying he understands how the club “consumes and grinds,” but insisted he is ready to meet every demand. He added that he had been thinking more about “packing bags than hesitating,” signaling his eagerness to return.
A Familiar Transition
In a symbolic twist, Stanković once again replaces Vladan Milojević, just as he did in 2019 — a parallel not lost on supporters and Serbian media. His return has been widely welcomed by fans who view him as both a club legend and a stabilizing figure.
Looking Ahead
Stanković’s new mandate begins immediately as Zvezda prepares for the second half of the season. With domestic ambitions unchanged and European aspirations renewed, expectations are high for the club icon to restore momentum and identity.
