Sky’s Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham Speak Out After Trade to the Sun
Former Connecticut Sun guards Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham shared their thoughts on transitioning to the Chicago Sky after their significant pre-All-Star trade.
The Chicago Sky are resuming practice after taking a break for the WNBA All-Star and Olympic events. Before this pause, Chicago executed a major trade with the Connecticut Sun, sending away starting guard Marina Mabrey in exchange for seasoned guards Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham. Both players recently spoke about their transition to their new team in Chicago.
Moriah Jefferson reflected on what she would miss most about her time with the Sun.
“Probably just the relationships that you build along the way,” Jefferson shared after practice on Thursday. “We had a good team, and it’s just a part of the game. It’s a business. We’re excited to be here, and practice went really well for us today. Again, great energy and just excited to be here.”
The Sky are keeping themselves primed on both ends of the floor during the WNBA's Olympic break, as seen from Thursday's practice:

Moving from a championship-caliber team like the Sun to a Chicago squad fighting for a playoff spot is a big change. However, Rachel Banham discussed how she and Jefferson’s experience can benefit the Sky. When asked about adapting from the Sun’s system to the Sky’s, she responded:
“I feel like luckily, we’re both point-guard-minded and high-IQ players, so [the transition is easier for us]. Today we already put in a handful of plays, and I thought it went really well.”
The two former Sun players are making the most of their new opportunity, and Chicago is thrilled to have them. While Jefferson is still recovering from an ankle injury and not cleared for contact, she said she’s feeling good. Meanwhile, Banham, who has a 36.7 percent three-point shooting accuracy, aims to make an immediate impact from long range.
Sky Prepare for the Second Half of the Season
Thursday’s practice for Chicago was intense, with strong performances on both defense and offense. The Sky looked sharp in their defensive rotations and showed no hesitation in scoring.
The team ended the first half of the season with a 10-14 record, placing them eighth in the WNBA standings. If they can hold onto this spot, they will secure a place in the Fall playoffs. All eyes are on rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, who are becoming key contributors, while Chennedy Carter, the team’s leading scorer, continues to elevate her offensive game.
It will be interesting to see how the Chicago Sky integrate Moriah Jefferson and Rachel Banham into their lineup.
