Grizzlies Sign Former Knicks Guard Charlie Brown Jr., Part of the Karl-Anthony Towns Trade
The Memphis Grizzlies have added a new name to their roster that sounds straight out of a Charles Schulz comic strip — Charlie Brown Jr.
The team made the signing official on Monday.
Brown, 28, is a guard who spent last season with the Raptors 905 in the NBA G League, where he averaged 12.5 points and 2.2 assists per game. He also made headlines with a nine-steal performance, tying a G League record.
At the NBA level, Brown has appeared in 49 games, most recently suiting up for the New York Knicks during the 2023–24 season.
He became part of the Karl-Anthony Towns trade last October, heading to the Charlotte Hornets as a minor piece in the blockbuster deal that brought KAT to New York.
The Grizzlies’ deal with Brown is likely an Exhibit 10 contract, designed to encourage players to join the team’s G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.
To make room for Brown, the Grizzlies waived forward Tyler Burton, who averaged 2.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in eight G League games last season. Burton, a former Richmond Spider and Villanova Wildcat, is expected to return to the Hustle if he clears waivers.
With this signing, Brown brings additional energy and scoring potential to the Grizzlies’ backcourt, providing extra depth in case the team needs offensive support from the guard position later in the season.
