Cameron Johnson’s Arrival Could Elevate Jamal Murray’s Game
The dynamic pairing of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic has anchored the Denver Nuggets for years, especially in the postseason. While Murray has shown flashes of brilliance, his regular-season consistency has been less reliable. The addition of Cameron Johnson might be the catalyst Murray needs to stabilize his performance across the full campaign.
Johnson’s off-ball movement and offensive versatility promise to enhance Denver’s system. Last season, he posted 18.8 points per game on 47.5% shooting, including a sharp 39% from three. Unlike Michael Porter Jr., who thrived as a catch-and-shoot option, Johnson brings shot creation and playmaking to the table.
Despite playing for a struggling Brooklyn Nets team in 2024–25, Johnson notched a career-best 3.4 assists per game—a number that could climb further alongside elite teammates like Murray and Jokic.
Murray himself averaged 21.4 points and 6.0 assists last season, shooting efficiently from both the field and beyond the arc. With Johnson drawing defensive attention and contributing as both a scorer and facilitator, Murray could benefit from cleaner looks and more assist opportunities.
Murray’s Outlook in Denver
Murray’s situation in Denver is already strong, but he’s yet to earn an All-Star nod. That could change in 2025–26, especially with Johnson now in the mix. The Nuggets remain focused on their championship ambitions, and Johnson’s arrival strengthens that pursuit.
Denver’s postseason prospects look formidable. Toppling the reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder won’t be easy, but if Murray, Johnson, and Jokic hit their stride offensively, the Nuggets could be nearly impossible to contain.
With Johnson on board, Denver’s ceiling rises—and so does the likelihood of a return to the NBA Finals.
