Legia Warsaw director dismisses speculation about Robert Lewandowski’s return
The possibility of Robert Lewandowski ending his career in Poland appears slim, as Legia Warsaw’s sporting director, Michal Żewłakow, firmly rejected the idea during an appearance on Liga+Extra.
When asked if the club might pursue the Barcelona striker in the future, Żewłakow responded with a straightforward “No.”
Lewandowski, whose current deal with Barcelona runs until the end of the season, could technically negotiate a pre-contract in January. However, Żewłakow’s curt reply underscored the major obstacles to such a move.
The Polish star first signed with Legia Warsaw in 2005, playing a year for their reserve side before moving on. Despite his difficult start in Warsaw, he went on to build an illustrious career, becoming one of the most accomplished forwards in world football.
While a return to the Polish Ekstraklasa would generate global attention, financial limitations and interest from other leagues — particularly Saudi Arabia — make the scenario unrealistic. At present, Lewandowski remains committed to performing at the top level with Barcelona, where he is now in his fourth season following twelve successful years in Germany with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
