Denver Nuggets Encouraged to Pursue 5-Time All-Star Kevin Love

With training camp just weeks away, the Denver Nuggets still have one open roster spot. The team currently holds 14 standard contracts and three two-way deals.

Bennett Durando of The Denver Post highlighted concerns about Denver’s depth at forward and overall experience heading into the new season. Among potential solutions, he suggested veteran Kevin Love, recently traded to the Utah Jazz, as a name worth watching.

“Kevin Love, 37, is expected to be traded or bought out by Utah before the season begins. Once available, a contender will likely sign him—perhaps Cleveland or one of the L.A. teams. But why not Denver?” Durando wrote on September 8.

Marc Stein of The Stein Line previously reported that Love is actively seeking a way out of Utah and is unlikely to start the season with the Jazz. With a championship ring and a reputation as one of the top rebounders of his era, Love fits the profile of what Denver may need.

Other Candidates for Denver’s Final Roster Spot

Kevin Love isn’t the only veteran option. Ryan Blackburn of Mile High Sports mentioned Russell Westbrook and DeAndre Jordan—both of whom played for Denver last season—as possible additions. However, Westbrook’s inconsistent stint and Jordan’s replacement by Jonas Valanciunas explain why they weren’t re-signed.

Another route could be promoting one of Denver’s current two-way players—Spencer Jones, Tamar Bates, or Curtis Jones—to a full contract. While all three showed promise during Summer League, they’ll need to impress further in training camp to earn the final spot.

No Rush to Finalize the Roster

Despite the vacancy, Denver’s front office isn’t feeling pressured. After acquiring Cameron Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas via trade and signing Kessler Edwards, Bruce Brown, and Tim Hardaway Jr., the team has bolstered its depth.

Durando noted that executive VP Ben Tenzer is comfortable waiting, even suggesting the team might hold off until the trade deadline to address any emerging needs.

With a stronger supporting cast around Nikola Jokić, the Nuggets currently hold the second-best odds—behind reigning champions Oklahoma City Thunder—to win the 2026 NBA title.
