Raul Gustavo Signs with NYCFC, Closes Chapter in Budapest
New York, August 22, 2025 — New York City FC have officially announced the signing of Brazilian center-back Raul Gustavo, marking the end of his tenure with Hungarian giants Ferencváros TC. The 25-year-old defender joins the MLS side on a multi-year deal, bringing his European chapter to a close after two seasons in Budapest.
Gustavo arrived at Ferencváros in 2023 from Corinthians and quickly established himself as a commanding presence in the back line. Known for his aerial dominance and aggressive tackling, he played a pivotal role in Fradi’s domestic success, including their 2024 Nemzeti Bajnokság I title run and Europa Conference League campaign.
“Raul brings strength, composure, and international experience to our defense,” said NYCFC sporting director David Lee. “We’re excited to welcome him to New York and believe he’ll be a key figure in our push for silverware.”
The move signals NYCFC’s intent to reinforce their back line following a string of injuries and inconsistent form. For Gustavo, it’s a chance to test himself in a new environment and contribute to one of MLS’s most ambitious clubs.
Ferencváros, meanwhile, are expected to pursue reinforcements before the transfer window closes, with several South American and Balkan prospects reportedly on their radar.
