Julian Weigl of Borussia Mönchengladbach Could Be Heading to Al-Shabab

Saudi outlets Arryadia and Okaz Sports report that Julian Weigl, midfielder for Borussia Mönchengladbach, is in talks for a potential transfer to Al-Shabab. The former German international, recently removed from the club’s leadership group, appears ready for a fresh start. While German publications Kicker and Sport Bild confirm his likely departure, they haven’t named any specific destinations.

According to transfermarkt.de, discussions between Al-Shabab and Gladbach have already begun. Additionally, Red Bull-affiliated clubs Leeds United and RB Salzburg are said to be pursuing the 29-year-old. A move to Leeds could reunite Weigl with ex-Gladbach manager Daniel Farke.

Weigl was left on the bench during Gladbach’s recent DFB-Pokal match against SV Atlas Delmenhorst, highlighting his uncertain role in Gerardo Seoane’s squad. Despite a solid preseason, intense competition in midfield has limited his chances for regular play.

Gladbach is aiming to trim its midfield roster before the transfer window shuts, with Florian Neuhaus also likely to leave following his public criticism of sporting director Roland Virkus in a summer video.
