Jan Ziolkowski Set for AS Roma Move After Final Legia Warsaw Appearance

Warsaw, Poland — August 14, 2025

Legia Warsaw’s promising young defender Jan Ziolkowski is poised to make his final appearance for the club in Thursday’s Europa League qualifier against AEK Larnaca, as a transfer to AS Roma nears completion.

The 20-year-old center-back, long regarded as one of Poland’s brightest defensive talents, has been on Roma’s radar since early spring. Sources close to the negotiations confirm that the deal is “virtually finalized,” with Legia Warsaw pushing to include a 10% sell-on clause in the agreement—ensuring future financial benefit should Ziolkowski’s value rise in Serie A.

Ziolkowski has been benched in recent matches, a move widely interpreted as precautionary ahead of his transfer. While fans have speculated about his absence, club officials have remained tight-lipped, citing “squad rotation” and “strategic planning” as reasons.

His final outing in Legia colors is expected to be a high-stakes affair, as the Polish side attempts to overturn a 4–1 deficit against AEK Larnaca. Whether Ziolkowski starts or comes off the bench, it will mark the end of a chapter for a player who rose through Legia’s youth ranks and made his senior debut at just 17.

Legia Warsaw manager Kosta Runjaić praised Ziolkowski’s development, saying, “Jan has shown maturity beyond his years. We’re proud of what he’s achieved here and wish him success in Italy.”

The move to Roma represents a significant step in Ziolkowski’s career, offering him the chance to compete at the highest level in one of Europe’s top leagues. For Legia, it’s a bittersweet moment—losing a homegrown talent, but gaining recognition on the international stage.
