Astros Linked to White Sox Pitcher Erick Fedde Amid Trade Rumors
The Houston Astros are exploring various options to upgrade their starting pitching.
With the Chicago White Sox enduring a dreadful 27-79 season, it’s expected that they will trade some of their veteran players. Among those attracting significant trade interest are star pitcher Garrett Crochet and power-hitting center fielder Luis Robert. However, the Astros are not targeting these top players.
Due to injuries and inconsistent performances from their current rotation, the Astros are looking to strengthen their pitching to compete with the Mariners and Texas Rangers for the AL West title. Acquiring Crochet would require a substantial amount of prospect capital, which the Astros, with their mediocre farm system, are unlikely to be able to provide. Instead, they are focusing on another White Sox starter, Erick Fedde, and are “actively considering” a trade for the 31-year-old, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
In their search to enhance their pitching staff, the Astros are also reportedly considering a trade for Detroit Tigers’ starter Jack Flaherty.
The Astros’ pitching staff has been underwhelming in 2024. With Justin Verlander recovering from injury, it’s likely the Astros will trade for a new starter to potentially replace Spencer Arrighetti and Jake Bloss in the rotation. Time will tell who they ultimately acquire, but Erick Fedde appears to be a promising option for the team.
