Burkardt Opens Up on His Move to Eintracht Frankfurt: “Not a Stepping Stone”

Eintracht Frankfurt’s latest signing, Jonathan Burkardt, has officially addressed the media following his high-profile move from Bundesliga rivals Mainz 05, stating firmly that his new club is “not a stepping stone” but a team with serious ambitions that align with his own.

The 24-year-old striker was unveiled earlier this week at Deutsche Bank Park, where he expressed his excitement about joining a club he has admired since childhood. Burkardt signed a five-year contract with Eintracht, running until June 2030.

Childhood Connection and Career Vision

Speaking to reporters, Burkardt said, “I’ve followed Eintracht Frankfurt since I was a kid. My father and I used to watch their games, and I’ve always respected what this club stands for — the atmosphere, the passion, the unity. This isn’t a temporary stop for me. This is the next step in a long journey I plan to take with Eintracht.”

His statement comes amid speculation from some corners of the football world that the move could be a platform for a future transfer to a bigger European club. Burkardt, however, made it clear that he views the club as a destination with long-term potential, not just a launching pad.

Why Frankfurt?

Burkardt’s decision to move was reportedly influenced by the club’s project, their dynamic attacking philosophy, and the opportunity to work under head coach Dino Toppmöller.

“The club’s sporting vision is very ambitious,” he said. “They’ve shown they can compete in Europe and challenge domestically. The squad is talented and hungry. That excites me.”

Eintracht Frankfurt, who finished 6th in the Bundesliga last season and secured a spot in the UEFA Europa League, have been active in the transfer market this summer. Burkardt’s arrival is seen as a key piece in building a competitive side for both domestic and European competitions.

Immediate Integration and Pre-Season Goals

Burkardt has already joined up with the squad during their pre-season preparations and is undergoing medical and physical testing before resuming full training. His first appearance in the club’s colors is expected during their upcoming friendly against Aston Villa in Louisville on July 26.

“I want to hit the ground running,” he said. “Pre-season is crucial to get familiar with the team’s system, build chemistry with my new teammates, and prove that I’m here to contribute immediately.”

Praise from Club Leadership

Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche welcomed Burkardt as a vital addition to the squad, highlighting his experience, versatility, and maturity despite his young age.

“Jonathan is a player with excellent movement, work rate, and a natural eye for goal. But above all, he brings character and leadership,” Krösche said.

Looking Ahead

With his future now tied to the Eagles, Burkardt hopes to leave a mark both on and off the pitch.

“I want to win trophies with this club,” he concluded. “The fans here are incredible, and I can’t wait to repay their faith and energy. This is home now.”
