Kevin Durant’s Response to Celtics’ Championship
Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant showed little excitement for the Boston Celtics’ recent NBA championship. Durant, who won back-to-back titles with the Golden State Warriors from 2016-2019, commented on Celtics star Jayson Tatum’s first NBA championship, which he won in a five-game series against the Dallas Mavericks. Tatum’s teammates on Team USA include fellow Celtics Derrick White, also a first-time champion, and Jrue Holiday, a previous title winner with the Milwaukee Bucks.
When asked if Team USA discussed the Celtics’ 2023-24 championship during a press conference ahead of the Paris Games, Durant replied, “Not at all. We got champs on the team, they just the most recent.” He laughed off a question about giving advice to the Celtics on repeating next season, saying, “I won’t give them any.”
Durant has not played in Team USA’s preseason games due to a calf injury and has experienced limited playoff success since leaving the Warriors. His stints with the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns have been less fruitful, with the Suns recently being swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round. Despite this, Durant remains a key player for Team USA as he aims to become the first men’s basketball player to win four Olympic gold medals.
