Sturm Graz Eyeing Another Arsenal Academy Talent
Sturm Graz are reportedly interested in signing another young Arsenal forward, this time setting their sights on Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, as they look to replicate past success with academy graduates.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the Austrian club is in pursuit of Butler-Oyedeji, who is attracting interest from multiple clubs both in the UK and across Europe. FC Copenhagen are also believed to be in the race for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Butler-Oyedeji is expected to depart Arsenal this summer after reaching the end of his contract. Despite becoming a free agent, the Gunners are still entitled to training compensation due to his age. However, reports indicate Arsenal might be open to waiving that fee in exchange for a future sell-on clause.
This wouldn’t be Sturm Graz’s first venture into Arsenal’s youth ranks. The club previously signed Mika Biereth, another Arsenal academy graduate, following a successful loan spell. Biereth made a strong impact before being transferred to AS Monaco. Similarly, Arthur Okonkwo, an Arsenal youth goalkeeper, also had a positive loan stint at the club.
Given the success of these prior moves, Sturm Graz may now view Butler-Oyedeji as the next promising talent to bring in. The young forward had a standout season for Arsenal’s U21s in 2024/25, notching 11 goals and 6 assists in 17 matches. His impressive form earned him a senior debut, though he remained on the fringes of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans.
