A video has surfaced showing Mads Pedersen colliding with a 13-year-old spectator during his ride to victory at the Danish National Time Trial Championships. While Pedersen is recognized as a skilled time-trialist, his win came unexpectedly — made even more remarkable by the fact that he was involved in a high-speed collision during the event and still managed to avoid a crash.
Despite Pedersen staying upright on his bike, the incident was more serious than it initially seemed. Footage from DR captured the moment Pedersen, riding for Lidl-Trek, overtook a race motorbike just before a left turn. He entered the corner at high speed, veered onto a curb to prevent an accident, and in doing so, hit a spectator standing there — a 13-year-old boy. Although Pedersen continued racing, the collision appeared quite forceful and knocked the boy to the ground.
Event manager Jens Kasler told the Danish media that Pedersen should not have caught up to the police motorcycle that was meant to stay ahead of him. “That’s not supposed to happen, but it did,” Kasler explained. “To avoid being trapped behind the motorcycle, he had only one choice — to ride up onto the curb. It’s extremely frustrating.” Fortunately, reports confirmed that the young spectator was not injured in the incident.
