Nuggets Reconnect with Former Timberwolves Executive Amid Front-Office Restructuring
Over two months after parting ways with their general manager, the Denver Nuggets have finally unveiled their new leadership team—just days before the 2025 NBA Draft. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the team has promoted Ben Tenzer to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and hired Jon Wallace as Executive Vice President of Player Personnel. Both executives will report directly to Team President Josh Kroenke.
While there hasn’t been an official confirmation, Altitude Sports’ Vic Lombardi suggests that Tenzer and Wallace will likely share general manager responsibilities. Wallace previously spent over three years with the Nuggets in basketball operations and scouting before joining the Minnesota Timberwolves as Director of Player Personnel and General Manager of their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves. With the offseason fast approaching, Wallace won’t have much time to settle in.
Can the Nuggets Capitalize on This Crucial Offseason?
After Kroenke’s decision to dismiss GM Calvin Booth and head coach Michael Malone late in the season, the franchise faces a pivotal summer that demands decisive action. The delay in establishing the front office and lingering questions about its structure may temper fan enthusiasm for now.
However, Denver has a chance to shift public opinion quickly through a strong performance in the draft and free agency. Even though they currently don’t hold any picks in the first round of Wednesday’s draft, the Nuggets could still make a significant impact by pursuing trades to acquire draft assets. Depth is a major concern, especially with the possibility of Russell Westbrook leaving in free agency.
With star center Nikola Jokic now over 30, the urgency to strengthen the roster and pursue another championship is more intense than ever. Although the team narrowly missed eliminating the eventual NBA champions in this year’s playoffs, many believe that roster improvements are essential for a return to title contention.
Now, it appears the task of executing those changes falls squarely on the shoulders of Denver’s newly restructured front office.
