DONE DEAL: Dolphins Reunites with Another Superbowl Champion in Blockbuster Deal to replace 2-Time Champ After Surprising Retirement…

Dolphins Reunite with Edge-Rusher Following Surprise Retirement

The Miami Dolphins’ defense faced an unexpected challenge when Shaquil Barrett, a two-time Pro Bowl edge-rusher signed in March, decided to retire last weekend. Barrett’s decision, motivated by a desire to spend more time with his family after a decade in the NFL and two Super Bowl victories, was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In response, the Dolphins acted swiftly to address the vacancy, reuniting with edge-rusher Emmanuel Ogbah on Tuesday. Ogbah and Yannick Ngakoue both participated in workouts for the team on Monday.

Ogbah, who had previously spent four productive years with Miami, was released in February as a cost-saving measure. During his tenure, he recorded 114 tackles, 24 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and 19 passes defensed. He now returns on a one-year contract worth up to $5 million, despite interest from other NFL teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, with whom he won a Super Bowl in 2019.

The Dolphins hope Ogbah’s return will be seamless, especially with the linebacker unit facing uncertainties. Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, and Cameron Goode are all starting the season on the PUP list, and 2024 first-round pick Chop Robinson is a rookie.

Ogbah brings much-needed depth and experience while the Dolphins await the return of their injured players. Additionally, with Anthony Weaver as the new defensive coordinator, there may be better opportunities for Ogbah, who is entering his ninth NFL season with something to prove.
