Fradi Star Alex Tóth Completes Record-Breaking Move to AFC Bournemouth

BOURNEMOUTH, UK – In a landmark deal for Hungarian football, AFC Bournemouth has officially confirmed the signing of Alex Tóth from Ferencváros TC. The 20-year-old midfield sensation arrives on the South Coast following a rapid rise through the ranks in Budapest, marking one of the most significant departures in “Fradi” history.

The Details of the Deal

The transfer, finalized late Tuesday, represents a massive investment for the Cherries as they look to bolster their midfield depth.

  • Transfer Fee: The deal is worth a guaranteed $14 million (£10.4 million), with an additional $3.5 million (£2.6 million) in performance-related bonuses.

  • Contract Length: Tóth has committed his long-term future to the Vitality Stadium, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract that runs until June 2031.

  • The “Fradi” Clause: Ferencváros has protected their long-term interests by securing a 10% sell-on clause, ensuring the Hungarian champions profit from any future move the youngster may make.

A Record-Breaking Departure

This move sets a new benchmark for the Nemzeti Bajnokság (NB I). At roughly €12 million (base fee), Tóth has doubled the previous record for the most expensive domestic transfer in Hungarian league history—a record previously held by Krisztián Lisztes’s €6 million move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

For Ferencváros, the loss of Tóth is a significant sporting blow but a financial triumph. The academy graduate leaves having made 52 senior appearances and playing a pivotal role in the club’s current Europa League campaign, where they currently sit 6th in the league phase.

Why Bournemouth?

Tóth becomes the second Hungarian international to join the Cherries, following in the footsteps of left-back Milos Kerkez. Speaking to the club’s official website, Tóth expressed his excitement:

“When I knew AFC Bournemouth were interested, I was happy because this is a great club in the strongest league in the world. I am really looking forward to achieving great things with this team.”

Bournemouth’s Head of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, cited Tóth’s versatility and European experience as key factors in the acquisition. The 20-year-old is expected to provide immediate cover for the injured Tyler Adams and could make his debut as early as this Saturday against Liverpool.

What’s Next for Ferencváros?

Life without Tóth begins immediately for manager Robbie Keane. The Green and Whites are expected to lean heavily on recent signing Naby Keïta to fill the creative void in midfield as they prepare for tomorrow’s crucial Europa League match against Panathinaikos.
