Red Star Belgrade Secures Highly-Rated Winger Douglas Owusu…
BELGRADE, Serbia — Red Star Belgrade has officially completed the signing of highly-rated young winger Douglas Owusu, securing one of the Serbian SuperLiga’s most exciting prospects in the current transfer window.
The 19-year-old Ghanaian attacker joins the Serbian champions from fellow SuperLiga club FK Radnik Surdulica on a three-year contract, with the club holding an option for an additional season. Owusu will wear the number 35 shirt for the club.
A Significant Acquisition
Owusu’s transfer is reported to be valued in the region of €2.7 million, representing a major investment and an internal league transfer record for Red Star. The signing follows a stellar first half of the season where Owusu became a standout performer, netting seven goals in 20 league appearances for Radnik.
His electric pace, exceptional dribbling skills, and eye for goal earned him a spot in the Serbian SuperLiga’s Team of the First Round, attracting significant interest from clubs across Europe, including Feyenoord, Viktoria Plzeň, and Aris, before Red Star ultimately won the race for his signature.
Immediate Integration
The young winger is expected to immediately link up with his new teammates at their mid-season training camp in Antalya, Turkey, where he is set to join preparations for the second half of the campaign.
Owusu’s arrival is seen as a key move to bolster Red Star’s attacking options as they push for a domestic double and look ahead to their potential European ambitions later in the year. Crucially, the player also possesses Serbian nationality, allowing him to be registered as a non-foreign player in domestic competitions.
The club issued a short statement confirming the successful completion of the transfer following his medical examination, expressing confidence that Owusu will grow into a key figure at the Marakana stadium.
