Nuggets Face Uncertainty Ahead of Draft and Free Agency Amid GM Vacancy

With the NBA draft just five days away and free agency following closely behind, the Denver Nuggets face a critical period without a permanent general manager—a concerning situation, according to Sean Keeler of the Denver Post. Ben Tenzer is currently serving as interim GM, but with major decisions looming, the organization lacks the clarity needed both internally and in communications with other teams regarding potential trades. Former Nuggets president Pete Babcock emphasized the importance of leadership at this juncture, telling Keeler, “The standard operating procedure is to have someone in place. If their role is to assemble the roster and shape the team, they need to be involved ahead of the draft to influence key decisions.”

Meanwhile, Keith Smith of Spotrac notes in his offseason analysis that Denver is unlikely to trade any of its starters this summer. Instead, the team will likely focus on player development for internal growth. However, if the Nuggets decide against re-signing Russell Westbrook, DeAndre Jordan, or Vlatko Čančar, they may have access to a $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception, which could be used to acquire an additional role player. Potential targets include Guerschon Yabusele, Tyus Jones, and Larry Nance Jr.
