Ty Lue Keeps It Brief on Nikola Jokic Strategy Ahead of Clippers-Nuggets Game 5
The first-round NBA Playoff clash between the Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets has delivered plenty of drama. In Game 4, Denver was missing Russell Westbrook due to injury, yet still built a sizable lead. The Clippers clawed their way back, tying the game in the final seconds thanks to a tip-in by Ivica Zubac.
As expected, Nikola Jokic had the ball for the final play. Despite being tightly guarded, his fadeaway jumper missed. However, Aaron Gordon grabbed the rebound and dunked just as time expired. After a lengthy review, the basket counted, and Denver secured the win to even the series at 2-2. Jokic was dominant again, finishing with 36 points, 21 rebounds, and eight assists. Although Zubac can physically compete with Jokic, defending the MVP is another matter entirely, especially given his elite footwork. Jokic is currently averaging a triple-double in the series.
When Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue was asked how his team plans to defend Jokic going forward, his response was short and vague: “We’ll see.” With the series now tied and returning to Denver, the Nuggets are in a strong position. Westbrook’s status for Game 5 remains uncertain, and his hustle—especially on the offensive boards—has been crucial for L.A. That game will be part of a packed Tuesday night slate featuring three other playoff matchups.
