Mickey Loomis said Derek Carr will remain the Saints’ starting quarterback — as long as he’s healthy — even after the team selected Tyler Shough in the second round of the draft.
The Saints general manager made it clear that Carr, 34, will keep his starting role if he’s able to play. However, uncertainty still surrounds Carr’s shoulder injury and whether it could force him to miss the entire 2025 season.
Loomis emphasized that Carr’s situation hasn’t changed, despite recent comments from Carr’s brother, David, on NFL Network mentioning that Derek has been in communication with the team.
“We’ll figure that out,” Loomis said. “We’re always looking to strengthen the quarterback position. Tyler was a player we rated very highly, and when he was still available, we had to take him.”
If Carr is unable to return, Tyler Shough is expected to compete with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener for the starting role.
