Carlos Mendoza Shares Concerning Injury Update on $2.4 Million Mets Outfielder…
New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza offered a discouraging update on outfielder Jose Siri, who suffered a painful injury during Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics. Siri fouled a ball off his shin in the second inning and had to be carted off the field.
“He’s in a lot of pain,” Mendoza told AMNY’s Joe Pantorno. “He came in this morning still on crutches, really sore, and can’t put any weight on it… We’ll have to wait and see.”
While Siri himself is unsure whether a stint on the injured list is necessary, Mendoza acknowledged the possibility, given his current condition.
“Based on how he’s feeling right now, I could definitely see an IL move unless there’s quick improvement,” Mendoza said.
Siri is currently on a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Mets for the 2025 season and has been sharing center field duties with Tyrone Taylor. With Siri likely sidelined, Taylor is expected to handle the position full-time.
Despite the injury setback, the Mets secured a series win against the Athletics, improving to 10-5 on the season. They now head to Minnesota for a three-game series against the Twins before returning home for a four-game set with the Cardinals. Even with a few bumps along the way, the Mets have had a strong start to the season and remain contenders in the National League East. Siri’s injury status will be one to keep an eye on moving forward.
