Phillies Receive Significant $66 Million Contract Projection for Kyle Schwarber…

The Philadelphia Phillies may have to come to terms with the possibility of losing slugger Kyle Schwarber after this season. Schwarber has consistently proven himself as one of MLB’s premier power hitters, delivering at least 38 home runs each season since joining the Phillies — twice even surpassing 46. His performance ensures there will be plenty of interest from other teams willing to pay up. But will Philadelphia be the one to keep him? And what kind of contract might it take?

On a recent episode of Foul Territory, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal weighed in, predicting that Schwarber could receive a deal similar to the three-year, $66 million contract signed by Teoscar Hernández with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rosenthal noted, “This is going to be a topic all season long and well into the offseason. Schwarber is one of the league’s top home run threats, but he’ll be 33 next year. A three-year deal would cover ages 33 to 35, while a four-year deal would include his age-36 season.”

Rosenthal compared Schwarber’s potential market to Hernández’s, highlighting that while Hernández plays outfield and provides defensive value, their offensive numbers are close. Last season, Hernández hit .272 with 33 homers and a 137 OPS+, while Schwarber batted .248 with 38 homers and the same OPS+, leading the league in walks. With these similarities, the Phillies might need to prepare a comparable offer if they hope to retain their star slugger.
