Nikola Jokic Becomes Third Player in NBA History to Average a Triple-Double for a Season

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has etched his name in the history books by becoming just the third player ever to average a triple-double over the course of an NBA season. He achieved the milestone during the Nuggets’ 117-109 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, registering his 700th assist of the year with his fourth of the game — locking in a season average of at least 10 assists, regardless of his performance in the regular season finale.

Jokic capped the night with yet another triple-double, recording 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 13 assists. For the season, he is now averaging 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.3 assists.

He joins an elite group alongside Oscar Robertson (1961–62) and Russell Westbrook — who accomplished the feat four times, most recently in 2020–21.

After the game, Jokic reacted in his usual humble fashion: “It’s nice. I didn’t do that before. I don’t know what to say. It’s good.”

Meanwhile, Nuggets interim head coach David Adelman voiced strong support for Jokic to claim his fourth MVP, stating: “If he doesn’t win the MVP, it’s the greatest season of all time not to win the MVP.”

Despite the historic accomplishment, Jokic isn’t the frontrunner in the MVP race, with Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander currently viewed as the favorite
