Dario Šarić Likely to Pick Up Player Option Despite Disappointing Season with Nuggets

Dario Šarić Expected to Pick Up Player Option for 2025/26 Season

Despite a disappointing debut season with the Denver Nuggets, Dario Šarić is reportedly planning to exercise his $5.4 million player option for the 2025/26 campaign, according to multiple sources cited by Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.

Šarić joined the Nuggets last offseason on a two-year, $10.6 million deal, choosing them over EuroLeague champions Panathinaikos. Denver used its full taxpayer mid-level exception to secure the veteran forward, hoping he’d provide valuable support for star center Nikola Jokić. However, the move hasn’t paid off as hoped—Šarić has played in only 16 games, averaging 3.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in just over 13 minutes per game. Even in a recent back-to-back where coach Michael Malone rested much of the roster, Šarić logged just seven minutes on the court.

Durando notes that the acquisition now appears to be a misstep by Nuggets GM Calvin Booth, especially given the team’s tight financial situation. If Šarić picks up his option, he’ll be the sixth-highest-paid player on the roster next season. Declining the option would provide some much-needed financial flexibility, leaving Denver about $13 million under the second tax apron with three roster spots to fill.

There have also been reports of interest from overseas clubs hoping to sign Šarić for next season. While he acknowledged the attention, Šarić said no decision has been made.

“I didn’t sign a contract with anybody. I still have a contract with Denver through this season, with an option for next year,” Šarić told The Denver Post. “My family and I haven’t decided yet. I’m still focused on finishing this season, and once it’s over, we’ll figure out what’s best. Honestly, I don’t even know myself what the right decision is at this moment.”
