Saints Meet with UCLA Linebacker Carson Schwesinger Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints are looking to strengthen their linebacker corps in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the team held a private meeting with UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger following his Pro Day.

Schwesinger, who played three college seasons, only became a full-time starter as a junior. That season, he made a name for himself with 136 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. Known for his high football IQ and quick instincts, he excels at diagnosing plays early. At his Pro Day, he showcased his lateral agility, recording a 4.1-second 20-yard shuttle. While his limited starting experience raises some concerns, his journey from walk-on to top draft prospect highlights his perseverance and work ethic.

Schwesinger’s standout performance in 2024 earned him First-Team All-American and All-Big Ten honors, as well as recognition as a Butkus Award finalist. He is projected to be the third linebacker selected in the draft, trailing Georgia’s Jalon Walker and Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell. Though he has the potential to sneak into the first round, he is more likely to be picked on Day 2.

The Saints have prioritized bolstering their defense in free agency but have yet to address the linebacker position. With veteran Willie Gay’s departure and Demario Davis aging, linebacker has become an increasing need for New Orleans. Holding the 40th overall pick, the Saints will be in an ideal spot to select Schwesinger and reinforce their defensive unit.
