Mets’ Carlos Mendoza Provides Update on Francisco Lindor Following Major News
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor remains a cornerstone of the franchise. After spending his first five seasons with the Cleveland Indians, he was traded to the Mets in January 2021 and later signed a 10-year, $341 million contract that March. Since joining New York, Lindor has delivered solid production, hitting .258/.335/.459 with 110 home runs and 360 RBIs across 601 games. With the recent addition of superstar slugger Juan Soto, the Mets now boast a powerful trio featuring Soto, Lindor, and Pete Alonso.
However, Lindor was absent from Monday’s lineup against the Miami Marlins. The four-time All-Star was given the day off following the birth of his child on Sunday. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that while Lindor wouldn’t start, he would be available off the bench, per SNY. In his place, backup shortstop Luisangel Acuña got the start. Acuña, who made his MLB debut last season, played 14 games for the Mets and showcased his potential with a .308/.35/.641 slash line, three home runs, and six RBIs.
The Mets opened the season with a 1-2 record after dropping their first series against the Houston Astros. They fell 3-1 on Opening Day, rebounded with a 3-1 win on Friday, but lost the deciding game 2-1 on Saturday. New York continues its series in Miami before returning home to face the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. Juan Soto has been a key performer early on, leading the team with a .333 batting average, one home run, two RBIs, a .538 OBP, and three hits heading into Monday’s matchup.
