JUST IN: Marco Odermatt Shatters Records with Unprecedented 4th Straight Alpine Skiing World Cup Crown.

Marco Odermatt Makes History with Fourth Consecutive Alpine Skiing World Cup Title

Swiss skiing sensation Marco Odermatt has cemented his place among the sport’s legends, securing his fourth straight Alpine Skiing World Cup overall title an achievement only two other athletes have accomplished. The 27-year-old clinched the title with five races still remaining this season, proving his sheer dominance on the slopes.

Odermatt now sits 635 points ahead of Norwegian rival Henrik Kristoffersen after finishing second to fellow Swiss skier Loïc Meillard in the giant slalom at Hafjell, Norway. With only five races left and a maximum of 500 points up for grabs, Kristoffersen is mathematically out of contention.

By winning four consecutive overall titles, Odermatt joins the exclusive ranks of Austrian greats Annemarie Moser-Pröll (1971-75) and Marcel Hirscher (2012-19). The prestigious overall title is awarded to the most consistent skier across all disciplines downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom.

For the second year running, Odermatt leads the standings in downhill, super-G, and giant slalom, despite not competing in slalom events. With eight victories this season, he continues his remarkable streak after tying the single-season record of 13 wins in both of the last two years.

His dominance has been record-breaking. In the 2022-23 season, he secured the overall title by 874 points the largest winning margin ever for a male skier. The previous season, he amassed 2,042 points, another record-setting feat.

However, this season hasn’t been entirely smooth. After an unprecedented 12-race winning streak in giant slalom through 2023 and early 2024, Odermatt faltered, failing to finish his first two GS races. He quickly bounced back, winning the next three and later securing his fourth straight World Cup giant slalom title.

Meanwhile, Swiss up-and-comer Franjo von Allmen has emerged as a rising star in downhill racing, having recently claimed the World Championships title. However, Odermatt remains firmly in control of the downhill standings, holding an 83-point lead heading into the World Cup Finals.

Odermatt’s journey to skiing superstardom began as a young fan meticulously tracking statistics of his idols while watching World Cup races on TV. His bedroom walls were once decorated with posters of legends Didier Cuche and Ted Ligety. His breakout moment came in 2018 when he became the first skier to win four individual races at a single Junior World Championships.

In the years that followed, he became the youngest man in three decades to win a World Cup speed race, claimed Olympic gold in the giant slalom (2022), and earned world titles in GS and downhill (2023), followed by a super-G world title in 2024. His fame has extended beyond skiing, even featuring in commercials alongside tennis icon Roger Federer.

Looking ahead to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, Odermatt has the potential to achieve something truly historic becoming the first male skier since Bode Miller and Aksel Lund Svindal in 2010 to win three individual Alpine medals at a single Winter Games.

His reign is far from over, and his legacy continues to grow with each passing race.
