Duke’s Tyrese Proctor Exits Game with Knee Injury as Blue Devils Dominate Miami
Duke’s standout guard Tyrese Proctor suffered a left knee injury late in the first half of the No. 2 Blue Devils’ commanding 97-60 victory over Miami on Tuesday night. After limping to the locker room, Proctor did not return for the second half.
Head coach Jon Scheyer addressed the injury, stating, “We have to get him back, get X-rays, MRI. He got hit on the leg. That’s the extent of what I know. And we’ll get him looked at and taken care of.” Despite the setback, Proctor traveled back to Durham with the team for further evaluation. He left the arena on crutches but was still able to put some weight on his left leg.
The injury occurred with just 36 seconds left in the first half as Proctor defended the basket against Miami’s Divine Ugochukwu, whose layup attempt resulted in a knee-to-knee collision. Proctor’s knee buckled on impact, forcing him to leave the court in visible discomfort.
Before exiting the game, the 6-foot-5 junior had contributed seven points to Duke’s dominant first half, where they built a 47-32 lead over the struggling Hurricanes (6-21, 2-14 ACC). Averaging 12 points per game this season and shooting 40.9% from beyond the arc, Proctor also reached a significant milestone during the game—scoring his 1,000th career point.
“Happy for Tyrese getting his 1,000th point,” Scheyer said. “I know he didn’t want to get it in this fashion.”
With Proctor sidelined, freshman guard Isaiah Evans stepped up in the second half. Having already put up 16 points before halftime, Evans took on a larger role, replacing Proctor in the lineup. Scheyer hinted that Evans has earned more playing time, regardless of Proctor’s status moving forward.
“Isaiah, with what he’s done, I mean, it was a no-brainer,” Scheyer said. “That’s obvious. He’s established himself in that role… He’s going to be in there.”
As Duke (25-3, 16-1 ACC) pushes forward in their ACC campaign, all eyes will be on Proctor’s recovery and the impact of Evans’ emerging presence.
