Former Alabama Star Damien Harris Raves About Kalen DeBoer’s Latest Hire
Alabama football’s newest addition to the coaching staff has already earned the stamp of approval from a former Crimson Tide standout. Damien Harris, a two-time national champion, took to social media to praise Kalen DeBoer’s latest hire football analyst Tyler Hughes. Keeping it short but impactful, Harris posted just four words on X: “Great hire, right here.”
Hughes, who previously worked with DeBoer at Washington as an offensive analyst, brings valuable experience to Alabama’s staff. Before rejoining the college ranks, he spent time with the New England Patriots under head coach Jerod Mayo in 2024. Interestingly, Harris was part of the Patriots’ roster during Hughes’ tenure, giving him firsthand knowledge of Hughes’ coaching abilities.
During his time at Alabama, Harris was a key contributor to the Crimson Tide’s national championship victories in 2015 and 2017, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards in two of his four seasons. Now, Hughes joins a growing list of staff additions under DeBoer, who has been actively restructuring his coaching team. Among the notable hires, Chuck Morrell has been promoted to inside linebackers coach, while Ryan Grubb steps in as offensive coordinator.
As Alabama looks to rebound from a disappointing 9-4 season that saw them miss the College Football Playoff, Hughes will play a key role in helping the Crimson Tide reclaim their dominance. With DeBoer at the helm, Alabama is determined to return to championship contention.
