Fresh off their triumphant Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles have already set their sights on the 2025 season, making swift and strategic roster moves.
While the city of Philadelphia continues to bask in the glory of its second championship in seven years, the Eagles’ front office has wasted no time in securing talent for the future. Just days after the victory parade, the team has signed 13 players to reserve/future contracts, ensuring their place on at least the practice squad moving forward.
Among the returning players are defensive backs Tariq Castro-Fields, Parry Nickerson, A.J. Woods, and Andre’ Sam, as well as linebackers Dallas Grant and Ochaun Mathis. The Eagles have also retained defensive linemen K.J. Henry and Gabe Hall, wide receivers Elijah Cooks and Danny Grant, running back Tyrion Davis-Price, tight end Nick Muse, and offensive lineman Laekin Vakalahi.
With the Super Bowl behind them, the Eagles have expanded their roster from the in-season limit of 53 players to the offseason maximum of 90, as per NFL regulations. The 13 signings were made official on Friday, coinciding with the team’s championship parade, according to the league’s transaction wire.
Except for wide receiver Elijah Cooks who spent a brief period on the practice squad during the playoffs all of these players were part of the Eagles’ practice squad at the end of the season.
Signing players to reserve/future contracts is a routine process, allowing them to compete for a roster spot in training camp and preseason games. In recent years, this pathway has proven valuable, with players like Trevor Booker, E.J. Jenkins, Tristin McCollum, and Brett Toth making the jump from the practice squad to the active roster.
However, not all practice squad members were retained. Fullback Khari Blasingame, linebacker Nicholas Morrow, defensive end Charles Harris, quarterback Ian Book, and wide receiver Kyle Philips are now free agents and are eligible to sign with any team including the Eagles.
With an eye on continued success, the Eagles are already laying the groundwork for another championship run, ensuring that their roster remains deep and competitive heading into the next season.
