The Alabama Crimson Tide entered the 2024 season with sky-high expectations. With quarterback Jalen Milroe returning for his second year as a starter, an improved offensive line, and the arrival of five-star phenom Ryan Williams, many anticipated an electrifying attack. However, the offense ultimately fell short, playing a key role in three of Alabama’s four losses.
Determined to change the narrative, head coach Kalen DeBoer reunited with his longtime offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, to reignite the Crimson Tide’s firepower. Grubb is confident that the offense will take a significant leap in Year 2 under DeBoer.
“We should be able to push the ball downfield,” Grubb declared. “We should be able to finish runs and block with explosive force, creating an offense that truly threatens defenses every play.”
One of the most surprising struggles of Alabama’s 2024 campaign was its lack of explosiveness. Outside of Milroe’s dynamic rushing ability, the offense often stalled. In contrast, Grubb’s offenses at Washington were among the most dangerous in the nation, leading the country in passing yards in 2023 and finishing second in 2024.
A key difference between Washington and Alabama? The quarterback situation. The Huskies had a clear leader in Michael Penix Jr., who became a first-round NFL draft pick. Meanwhile, Alabama faces a three-man battle for the starting job. Grubb must decide between experienced veteran Ty Simpson, redshirt sophomore Austin Mack, and highly touted freshman Keelon Russell to take the reins in Tuscaloosa.
With Grubb at the helm, Alabama’s offense could be on the verge of a thrilling resurgence—one that could put the rest of the country on notice.
