On March 27, 2024, Jedd Fisch hosted a press conference at Husky Stadium to officially introduce his new coordinators. With Brennan Carroll on his right and Steve Belichick on his left, Fisch took questions from the media. When asked about his similarities to his father, former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Brennan reflected on their shared philosophy, emphasizing the importance of people being comfortable in their own skin. “I am,” Brennan joked, “my mother’s son.” However, Brennan’s time in Seattle was short-lived. He is leaving to take on the role of offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, a decision Fisch announced on Monday. This move reunites Brennan with his father, Pete, who was hired by the Raiders in late January. Brennan previously worked alongside Pete with the Seahawks from 2015-2020 and at USC from 2002-2009.
In response to Brennan’s departure, Fisch revealed that quarterbacks coach Jimmie Dougherty would step in as UW’s new offensive coordinator, while Michael Switzer, who was recently promoted to assistant offensive line coach, would take over as the offensive line coach. Switzer’s promotion brings UW’s coaching staff back to 11 members with off-campus recruiting privileges. Fisch will continue to call the offensive plays. “I’m thrilled for Brennan and Pete as they embark on this new chapter with the Raiders,” Fisch said.
Brennan’s exit is part of a broader shift at UW, with Belichick, the defensive coordinator, leaving to join his father Bill Belichick at North Carolina, and safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri moving to Florida. However, Brennan’s decision was especially surprising due to his long tenure with Fisch. The two first worked together at Miami in 2011, where Fisch was the offensive coordinator, and Brennan coached tight ends. After Fisch left Miami in 2012, they reunited when Fisch became the head coach at Arizona in 2021. During their time in Arizona, Brennan played a key role in developing standout offensive linemen, including first-round NFL Draft pick Jordan Morgan and projected early-round pick Jonah Savaiinaea.
Brennan joined Fisch at UW in 2024, but inherited an offensive line unit that had lost all five starters from the 2023 season, when UW won the prestigious Joe Moore Award for the best offensive line in the country. The Huskies struggled during their first year in the Big Ten, ranking 12th in the conference in rushing yards (1,674) and rushing yards per game (128.8). The offensive line also allowed 39 sacks, which ranked 116th nationally and last among Big Ten teams.
Fisch expressed his excitement for Brennan’s new opportunity, acknowledging that the Carroll family will bring passion and energy to the Raiders. “This is an incredible opportunity for them to coach together,” Fisch said. “We’re thrilled for them.”
