The stage is set for Super Bowl 59, with the Kansas City Chiefs facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in a highly anticipated rematch of Super Bowl 57. While the Chiefs are largely healthy heading into the big game, star wide receiver Rashee Rice remains sidelined. Rice, who has been out since Week 4 due to a knee injury that required surgery on his LCL and hamstring, sparked excitement among Chiefs fans with a recent social media post. On Wednesday, Rice shared a photo of his Super Bowl jersey on Instagram, leaving fans wondering if there was any possibility of a return for the game.
Despite the glimmer of hope, a Super Bowl comeback seems unlikely unless there has been a sudden change in his recovery. In December, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid dismissed the idea of Rice returning this season, saying, “There’s a chance with Mecole (Hardman) and potentially (Jaylen) Watson. I mean, potentially, you know, that would be stretching it, the whole thing. But the other two, (Rice and wide receiver Skyy Moore), no.”
Before his injury, Rice had been a standout performer, recording 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in his first three games. With the Super Bowl approaching, it appears Patrick Mahomes will have to make do without Rice, relying on his new receiving corps of Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, and DeAndre Hopkins, along with star tight end Travis Kelce, as the Chiefs aim for a three-peat.
