Jack Flaherty played a pivotal role in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2024 World Series triumph, stepping up to anchor their pitching rotation amid numerous injury struggles. However, as the right-hander enters free agency, the Dodgers chose to sign Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki instead of re-signing Flaherty. As a result, the 29-year-old is now likely to seek his reported $100 million deal elsewhere. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently identified the Atlanta Braves as one of the top destinations for Flaherty.
Miller pointed out that despite Atlanta’s inactivity over the past few months, following the trade of Jorge Soler’s contract and the decision not to pick up Travis d’Arnaud’s 2025 option, the Braves are expected to make a significant move. With a payroll pushing $200 million, the team has limited financial flexibility, but the need for a notable acquisition remains. While re-signing Max Fried or landing Willy Adames seemed unlikely, securing Flaherty on a shorter-term deal could be the game-changing acquisition Atlanta needs.
The Braves are looking to replace the contributions of both Charlie Morton and Max Fried, which is a tall order. However, adding Flaherty would offer a solid bridge for the time being. Although he isn’t quite the caliber of Fried, he certainly represents an upgrade over Morton. A potential four-year, $100 million contract for Flaherty would be a move that strengthens Atlanta’s rotation and helps push the team forward.
