Tennessee Volunteers Close to Extending Contract with Defensive Coordinator Tim Banks…

The Tennessee Volunteers are nearing an agreement to extend the contract of their defensive coordinator, Tim Banks.

As the Volunteers shift their focus to the 2025 college football season following their early exit from the playoffs, they are not only working on roster improvements but also addressing key staffing decisions. One significant development involves finalizing an extension for Tim Banks.

According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Tennessee and Banks are close to securing a deal that will keep him as the defensive coordinator. “Sources inform ESPN that Tim Banks and Tennessee are finalizing an extension to maintain his role as @Vol_Football’s defensive coordinator,” Low reported. “Banks, a finalist for the Broyles Award, led one of the top defenses in college football last season, limiting 11 out of 13 opponents to fewer than 20 points.”

Banks joined Tennessee’s coaching staff in 2021 and has been instrumental in transforming the team’s defense into one of the top units in the country. While head coach Josh Heupel has consistently developed a strong offense, the defensive improvements under Banks over the past two years have been a game-changer for the Volunteers.
