JUST IN: Chicago Bears Shake Up the Coaching Carousel, Virtually Interview Titans’ Mike Vrabel in High-Stakes Head Coach Search.

The Chicago Bears officially launched their first round of virtual interviews for head coaching candidates on Wednesday.

Among the candidates was former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who, despite being available as a free agent, opted for a virtual meeting to kickstart the process. Reports also indicated that Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzking was among the initial interviewees on the same day.

The Bears are considering over a dozen potential candidates for their next head coach. While the timeline to narrow down the list remains uncertain, a critical factor for the hire is the development of quarterback Caleb Williams. After a turbulent rookie season, Williams’ progress as a franchise cornerstone is seen as essential for the team’s future.

“For a young quarterback, there’s always an ideal fit, but at the end of the day, it’s about identifying the qualities you want in a head coach—leadership, accountability, and traits that transcend specific situations,” said Bears General Manager Ryan Poles. “Of course, the ability to develop a young quarterback will play a key role in our decision.”

Additionally, the Bears have reportedly requested permission to speak with Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who has been linked to the head coaching job since the dismissal of Matt Eberflus.

Kingsbury, a former Arizona Cardinals head coach, shares a connection with Caleb Williams from their time at USC, making him a compelling option. However, Kingsbury may be content to stay in Washington, where he has been instrumental in the success of potential offensive rookie of the year Jayden Daniels.
