Hurricanes Recall Juha Jaaska From Chicago; Shayne Gostisbehere Placed on Injured Reserve

Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Eric Tulsky announced the recall of forward Juha Jaaska from the AHL’s Chicago Wolves and the placement of defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere on Injured Reserve.

Jaaska, 26, debuted in the Hurricanes’ recent victory over Florida. Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, he has accumulated 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) in 26 games with the Wolves this season. Previously, Jaaska notched 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 57 games for HIFK in Finland’s Liiga during the 2023-24 season, serving as an alternate captain. He added seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) in seven playoff games, leading HIFK in postseason scoring. Throughout his nine-season career with HIFK, Jaaska tallied 142 points (51 goals, 91 assists) in 310 Liiga games, and 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 55 playoff appearances. Internationally, he represented Finland at the 2016 U18 World Championship (winning gold), the 2018 World Junior Championship, and the 2024 World Championship.

Gostisbehere, 31, has been sidelined for the past four games due to an upper-body injury. This season, he has recorded 27 points (6 goals, 21 assists) in 35 games for Carolina. Last season, he tallied 56 points (10 goals, 46 assists) in 81 games with the Detroit Red Wings. Over his NHL career, Gostisbehere has amassed 394 points (103 goals, 291 assists) in 654 games with Arizona, Philadelphia, Carolina, and Detroit. During the 2022-23 season, he contributed 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 23 regular-season games and three assists in 15 playoff games as the Hurricanes reached the Eastern Conference Final. As a rookie with the Flyers in 2015-16, he earned 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists), was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team, and was a Calder Trophy finalist. Gostisbehere played three seasons at Union College, winning the 2014 NCAA Championship. He also secured gold with Team USA at the 2013 World Junior Championship and played for Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Drafted 78th overall by Philadelphia in 2012, the Pembroke Pines, Florida native has established a solid NHL career.
