SHOCKING: Coco Gauff Joins £28M Investment in Unrivaled Basketball League After Caitlin Clark Declines…

Coco Gauff Apologizes to Dad as Tennis Star Invests £28M in New Basketball League Despite Caitlin Clark’s Decline

Tennis sensation Coco Gauff humorously apologized to her father for not pursuing a basketball career after investing in the new Unrivaled basketball league. Gauff’s involvement brings the league’s total funding to £28 million, even as WNBA star Caitlin Clark opted out of participating.

Unrivaled, founded by Olympians Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, kicks off its inaugural season on January 17th. The 3-on-3 women’s basketball league features six teams competing in short, seven-minute quarters. The league aims to provide WNBA players with an opportunity to stay active during the offseason.

The league’s investor list includes notable figures like Angel Reese, Sabrina Ionescu, and high-profile athletes such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Michael Phelps, and Carmelo Anthony. Celebrities Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have also joined the funding effort.

Gauff expressed her excitement on social media, saying, “My dad always wanted me to play basketball. Sorry, dad, but this is as close as it gets. I’m thrilled to support women’s sports and be part of the Unrivaled family.”

The rise of women’s basketball, highlighted by Caitlin Clark’s impact in the WNBA, has fueled Unrivaled’s growth. Despite a £800,000 offer, Clark declined to participate, citing a need for rest after her demanding NCAA and WNBA seasons. She hinted at possible future involvement, while Unrivaled’s president assured that a spot would always be available for her.
