SAD NEWS: Jonathan Evans Lament Over His Father Dr. Tony Evans’ Departure…

Jonathan Evans Reflects on the Pain of His Father’s Departure from Ministry

Jonathan Evans, the son of Dr. Tony Evans, recently shared the emotional impact of learning that his father would be stepping down from ministry due to a past sin. Describing the news as a “punch to the gut,” Jonathan explained that his father decided to take a break for healing and restoration.

In a heartfelt video, Jonathan, an associate pastor at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, spoke about the personal challenges this change brought in 2024. “We are all praying for his full restoration and return to doing what he loves and is called to do,” he said.

Jonathan, who also serves as the team chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys, noted that his father’s announcement in June led him to a period of personal reflection and adjustment. “Ministry has been part of my life since birth,” he said. He found solace in Psalms 46, which reassured him of God’s presence and strength during difficult times.

He emphasized the importance of emotional steadiness, explaining that being still doesn’t mean inactivity but rather maintaining confidence in God’s plan. “When my dad stepped down, it was tough for me and my siblings,” he admitted, but he held on to the belief that God is ever-present and victorious.

Tony Evans announced his decision to step away from the pulpit last June after 48 years of ministry, citing an undisclosed sin from his past. He emphasized the need for repentance and restoration in line with their ministry’s commitment to God’s Word. This announcement followed his marriage to Carla Crummie in December 2023, four years after the passing of his first wife, Lois.

During a Father’s Day sermon, Jonathan expressed unwavering confidence in his father’s eventual return. He reassured the congregation, “We already have the victory. We will continue to move forward, trusting in God’s promises and celebrating the triumph we believe is already ours.”
