JUST IN: Former Pittsburgh Steelers Linebacker Eyes NFL Head Coaching Opportunity, Taking Bold Step Toward Legendary Career Move.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mike Vrabel has interviewed for the vacant head coach position with the New York Jets, the team confirmed on Friday. Vrabel, who was released from his advisory contract with the Cleveland Browns a week early, is now free to pursue head coaching opportunities and is anticipating securing a new position this offseason.

After being unexpectedly fired by the Tennessee Titans last offseason, Vrabel took a temporary role under Kevin Stefanski as he bided his time for another head coaching opportunity. The Jets were the first team to meet with him, and as a free agent, Vrabel is open to interviews with any other interested teams. Chicago could also be a potential landing spot for the experienced coach.

Vrabel played as a linebacker for the Steelers from 1997 to 2000 before spending eight successful seasons with the New England Patriots. Upon retiring from playing in 2010, he transitioned into coaching, eventually becoming the Titans’ head coach in 2018. Over his tenure with Tennessee, Vrabel posted a 54-45 record, including a postseason mark of 2-3, highlighted by an AFC Championship appearance.
