Growth of Prize Money

The prize pool for the World Darts Championship has seen significant growth over the years. The inaugural PDC World Darts Championship in 1994 awarded £16,000 to winner Dennis Priestley. By 2006, the top prize had risen to £100,000 and continued to increase, reaching £500,000 in 2019, where it remains today.

Before the establishment of the PDC, the BDO World Championship served as the primary competition, starting in 1978 with Leighton Rees earning £3,000 for his victory.
