JUST IN: New York Mets Completes a Blockbuster $154 million Deal to Land Elite All-Star…

Mets Trade Proposal: $14 Million All-Star Luis Arráez to New York in Three-Player Deal…

The New York Mets need to address a significant gap at first base before the 2025 season begins. While retaining four-time All-Star Pete Alonso remains a logical option, could the Mets’ president of baseball operations, David Stearns, consider acquiring San Diego Padres standout Luis Arráez instead? This move could provide a creative solution to their roster needs.

Arráez, known for his versatility, has played all four infield positions during his career. In 2024, he appeared in 69 games at first base while splitting the season between the Padres and Miami Marlins. Reports indicate that San Diego is open to trading Arráez, prompting speculation about what it might take for the Mets to land the three-time All-Star.

Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports has proposed a hypothetical trade scenario:

  • Mets receive: Infielder Luis Arráez
  • Padres receive: Outfielder Tyrone Taylor and right-handed pitcher Blade Tidwell

Taylor, a strong candidate for a fourth outfielder role, and Tidwell, ranked as the Mets’ eighth-best prospect by MLB.com, could be appealing assets for San Diego.

While Arráez might not offer the same lineup protection as Alonso for outfielder Juan Soto, his elite ability to set the table could significantly enhance the Mets’ offense. Slotting a three-time batting champion in the leadoff position ahead of stars like Soto, shortstop Francisco Lindor, and third baseman Mark Vientos would create a formidable challenge for opposing pitchers.

Arráez is projected to earn $13.7 million in 2025, his final arbitration year, with Spotrac estimating his long-term market value at nine years and $154 million.
