JUST IN: Broncos Eye Boise State Star as Javonte Williams’ Replacement to Revitalize Rushing Attack…

The Denver Broncos might address their need for a more dynamic rushing attack by selecting Boise State star Ashton Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to Pro Football Network’s Dalton Miller. With current starter Javonte Williams set to become a free agent and backups Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin unproven as lead options, Jeanty could provide a significant boost.

Denver ranks 19th in rushing attempts and 17th in yards, suggesting an increased focus on running could help. Jeanty, a dual-threat runner and pass-catcher, was the 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up and Doak Walker Award winner. Miller described Jeanty as “the most complete back we’ve seen in quite a while,” citing his nation-leading receptions and yards among running backs and his strong pass protection skills.

Jeanty’s college résumé is impressive, with 2,497 rushing yards this season, the fourth-highest in FBS history, and 344 carries, more than 115 FBS teams. He propelled Boise State into the College Football Playoff, earning multiple accolades, including Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year.

Despite his success, concerns about Jeanty’s workload may affect his draft position. His 374 carries in 2024 rank 12th all-time, and his career total of 750 carries raises questions about durability. Still, many heavily-used college backs have transitioned to long, productive NFL careers.

Drafting Jeanty at No. 22 would suggest a playoff berth for Denver, but the Broncos have other pressing needs. They’ve lacked consistent production at tight end and have invested in young receivers like Devaughn Vele and Troy Franklin. Analysts argue the team might prioritize positions like tight end, with prospects such as Penn State’s Tyler Warren or Arizona State’s Cameron Skattebo offering potential solutions.

While Jeanty could provide an instant impact, the decision ultimately hinges on how the Broncos weigh their roster priorities against the appeal of adding a dynamic running back to Sean Payton’s offense.
