JUST IN: Chiefs’ Andy Reid Shocks Fans with Major Playoff Injury Updates on Isiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice, Potentially Shifting the Team’s Championship Path.

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly set to rest their starters in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. However, head coach Andy Reid has yet to officially confirm the plan. Speaking to reporters on December 30, Reid stated that he intends to meet with his team before making any decisions regarding which players will rest, and whether they will sit out the entire game or just part of it.

One player likely to sit out is running back Isiah Pacheco, who is recovering from a rib injury sustained on Christmas Day. Reid confirmed that Pacheco will be available for the playoffs, but noted that the running back is “tender” at the moment. To allow him extra recovery time, the Chiefs will limit Pacheco’s participation in practice, giving him the necessary rest to be ready for the postseason, which begins for Kansas City the weekend of January 18-19, thanks to their first-round bye.

Reid also provided updates on several other key players, including wide receivers Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, and Mecole Hardman, as well as cornerback Jaylen Watson. While Reid left open the possibility of Hardman returning for the playoffs, he confirmed that both Rice and Moore will not be available. As for Watson, Reid stated that while there’s a slight chance he could return, it remains unlikely.

In terms of the offensive line, veteran left tackle D.J. Humphries, who has been sidelined for the past three games due to a hamstring strain, is “doing good” in rehab, according to Reid. However, Reid could not promise that Humphries would be ready for Week 18, as recovery from rehab doesn’t always translate to game readiness. Reid plans to evaluate Humphries’ condition during practice before making a final decision.

Meanwhile, left guard Joe Thuney has impressed in his temporary role as left tackle, earning praise for his strong performances. While some have suggested that Thuney should remain at left tackle even if Humphries returns, Reid said he would take a flexible approach, noting that he will assess both players during practice and make the decision as the Chiefs prepare for the postseason.
