Oregon head coach Dan Lanning made it clear he’s no longer interested in pursuing an NFL coaching career during an interview on The Zach Gelb Show last week. With three NFL head coaching positions currently available, Gelb asked Lanning if the thought of coaching at the professional level had ever crossed his mind.
Lanning’s response brought relief to Ducks fans:
“It used to be a goal of mine. At this point, everybody can realize that I’m not going anywhere,” Lanning stated. “I love what we have here. I’ve got three young boys who love Eugene. We have a lot of unfinished business to take care of, and I’m enjoying the ride. This will be the place I’m coaching for a long, long time as long as I continue to do my job.”
Lanning’s “unfinished business” refers to the Ducks’ upcoming College Football Playoff quarterfinal showdown against Ohio State in the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2025. Oregon will look to maintain its unbeaten season, while the Buckeyes aim to redeem themselves after a narrow 32-31 loss to the Ducks earlier this year. The highly anticipated matchup kicks off at 2 p.m. PST and will be broadcast on ESPN.
