REPORT: Controversies Sets Amid the Return Ted Lasso Season 4 Following the Departure of a Key Chararcter…

Everything We Know So Far About a Potential Ted Lasso Return….

The third season of Ted Lasso concluded in May 2023, nearly 20 months ago. Despite the gap, the show remains the fourth most-watched program on Apple TV+, surpassing newer hits like Slow Horses, Presumed Innocent, and Severance. For many fans, Ted Lasso serves as a comforting go-to series, much like The Office or Gilmore Girls. The prospect of its return for another season is a reassuring thought for viewers.

Here’s what’s known about a possible season 4.

Plot

Created by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, Ted Lasso centers on an American college football coach (Sudeikis) hired to manage an English soccer team. The series humorously explores cultural clashes around football (or soccer) and tea.

The show seemed to conclude with an extended finale where Ted returns to the U.S. However, reports emerged that Warner Bros. Television had taken steps toward a potential fourth season, including renewing contracts for multiple cast members.

According to Deadline:
“While outreach to the cast is in progress, early steps are being made to form a writers’ room. If everything aligns, production for season 4 could start in early 2025. Representatives for Warner Bros. Television and Apple TV+ declined to comment. However, initiating this process suggests Jason Sudeikis is open to continuing the series, as the studio wouldn’t proceed without his approval.”

In a follow-up, Warner Bros. Television CEO Channing Dungey told Variety:
“We’re having exciting conversations about a potential fourth season, but it’s still early days. We’ve always maintained that the show wouldn’t continue unless Jason and the team were enthusiastic about it. I can confirm he’s currently feeling positive and excited about the idea.”

Ultimately, the decision to continue lies with Sudeikis.

Apple TV+ Cast

Thus far, contract options have been renewed for three original cast members: Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).

Deadline notes that Warner Bros. Television plans to reach out to additional cast members whose SAG-AFTRA contracts have lapsed. These include Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) faces scheduling conflicts with his roles in Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface, while Nick Mohammed (Nate Shelley) appears interested in returning.

Release Date

It’s too soon to predict when season 4 might premiere, as its production is still uncertain. However, if filming begins in early 2025 as speculated, the season could debut in late 2025 or 2026. These details remain unconfirmed.
