Philip Daniels Transfers to Ohio State
Just two days after entering the transfer portal, offensive lineman Philip Daniels has joined Ohio State.
Daniels, a former Minnesota Gophers tackle and a Cincinnati Princeton High School graduate, officially signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday, as announced by Ohio State.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 315 pounds, Daniels started four games for the Gophers in the 2024 season and was expected to be a cornerstone of their offensive line in 2025. However, Ohio State’s offerings, potentially including name, image, and likeness (NIL) benefits, program reputation, and playing opportunities, seemed more enticing to the player.
Daniels initially committed to Pittsburgh in July 2022 but later signed with Minnesota in December of the same year.
With Daniels’ departure, the Gophers face a challenge in rebuilding their offensive line for the 2025 season. They now have only one returning starter, center Greg Johnson. Senior guard/tackle Quinn Carroll and guard Tyler Cooper will exhaust their eligibility after 2024, while junior left tackle Aireontae Ersery is expected to declare for the NFL draft.
Ersery and Perich Recognized
Aireontae Ersery and freshman safety Koi Perich were named second-team All-Americans by The Sporting News. Ersery, the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year, earned his third All-America recognition this week. Meanwhile, Perich, a standout rookie from Esko, Minnesota, received the honor for the first time.
